I first started felt work some 40 years ago, when I lived in Somerset, using fleece from my own Jacob’s sheep. Over ten years ago, I came to live in Polopos in Spain, a white Andalucian village, 10K up a winding mountain road from the coast 800 metres below.
La Primara Sonrisa is an excellent Bar/Posada found at the main entrance to the village, where you will find many of my felt works decorating the Bar and rooms. You can also buy my greeting cards here, as well as my marmalade's and chutneys.

For many years I have dabbled with Painting, Ceramics and Wood Sculptures and some years ago, I started making Felt Pictures, as I realized that I now lived in the perfect place to do this. The sun shines for much of the year and in summer it is very hot but it is perfect outside under shade on my terrace to do the messy business of sorting and washing the raw fleece, which is kindly supplied by friends in Somerset, who have a small flock of Jacob’s and other friends who keep Alpacas. I use only natural materials in my work: Silk/Soya and Banana fibre, threads and embellishments and of course, every piece is unique, as even I don't know how my work will turn out until I decide it's finished!
Solar panels on my roof terrace produce endless hot water for washing the fleece and the fairly constant sunshine is wonderful for drying everything. I have a studio in some of the old property on my patch and this has proved a great place to work in the heat of the summer, as it is below and stays cooler. The changing light across mountain and sea and the riot of colours in my garden and the surrounding mountains are inspirational to me.
